Cravings - week 8!

ssshhhhhh can you hear it calling for you?

You know they're there… you can hear them calling your name.. screaming from that kitchen cupboard you 'hid' them in… and that conversation in your head starts…

'NO.. I got them for visitors…'

'but I could have just one… '

'but would you REALLY have just one?!'

'No I'm going to open them and take two to have as a snack...
I'll track them and close them up and that's that…
I mean two biscuits won't kill me…'

Thing is there will be more than two .. and its not really about the biscuits, its about WHY you wanted them! Angry? bored? happy? lonely? Emotions that we feel we can satisfy with a cookie… sadly it doesn't work like that.. you're going to be even angrier, sadder, lonelier afterwards... 'WHY did I have to eat those.. I wasn't even hungry?!?' Its hard to stop mid cookie and think 'why am I doing this?' and honestly.. how many of us are going to put half the cookie back and have a think?! exactly!

Anyone ever craved an apple?! thought not!

What we need is a diversion! A plan to keep us out of the goodie jar! as well as keeping the goodie jar empty!

We all have an endless list of little jobs that need attention… if it diverts you from food .. DO IT! Nail polish stops me eating crisps! You can't paint greasy nails… and you can't stick your fingers into a bag with wet polish!  All the nice comments I get about my nails and the mad stuff I try to do to them has kept me from eating crisps... I'm not that person who has all the will power to just say no... they know my name and I brought them into my home... but I'm not ruining my lovely nails cause I'm feeling a bit low!

Anyone else have a little drawer that's full of 'stuff' that you're always going to 'sort out'? keys, concert tickets, wine corks we can't throw away… go sort it…

Wandering aimlessly about the kitchen is a recipe for disaster! You're not hungry… work out what you really are and sort THAT out! have a good cry… put on your favorite tune and dance about the kitchen…  the guilt, weight gain, sluggishness and sadness aren't worth that cookie! If after 15 mins you still want something then have a piece of fruit or a glass  of water and don't ruin all your hard work because there's nothing on telly and you're home alone…

you all look like this doing your chores yeah?

Whats needed is a list… a list of chores and things that don't involve eating!

Walk the dog…
Wash the dishes…
read a magazine…
call a friend…
paint your nails (you all know where I stand on that one!)
clean the toilet - trust me the smell of bleach will put you right off eating!
sort out paperwork…
check the battery in the smoke alarm…
dust that top shelf…
shave your legs…
prep veggies for dinner…
make your lunch…
walk around the block..
walk out the front door and walk for 5 mins… then you have to come home!
and the one that never fails...

brush your teeth…

So… write a list... stick it somewhere.. every time you get the urge, read the list and do something on it! If you're anything like me you LOVE crossing things off lists!

Have a great week... 6 weeks to go!

Totes Emosh... Week 7

Tomorrow is All souls day… and whilst I'm not religious... it got me thinking about all nourishing, you know how we're always banging on about nourishing our bodies but what about nourishing how we feel … I've often been described as a happy soul but for a long time that was just a front and food was my blanket...

I know you're rolling your eyes but this has EVERYTHING to do with losing weight!

Self loathing is possibly one of the worst emotions on the planet… hell in the universe! And for some of us, its easy to dish out the love, care and attention that other people need and want (and even those who don't deserve it!), but when it comes to ourselves, why do we feel we're not good enough? or worthy enough to even bother? Its easy to say 'sure I'm grand' when you're really not! but here's the thing… anyone trying to lose weight has already made that step towards realizing they're worth something… if you truly hated yourself you wouldn't bother with any of this pointing/syns/weigh-ins/goal setting malarky!

You love your children, partners, mums, dads, siblings, friends, pets and would probably die for most of them... You wouldn't let them go hungry, you would try to make sure they're nourished, encourage them to eat well, keep them warm, want to see them living happy lives yet personally there was a point when I shoveled food into my body just to to keep it quiet so I could spend more time caring for others… caring for yourself isn't a selfish thing… in fact caring for yourself makes you a better you! If you have kids, they follow by example, preparing healthy food isn't easy, not in these ready-meal days… (tangent: I was in a shop the other day and it was 4 euro for a punnet of 10 strawberries and 3 sausage rolls for a euro!!! see what I mean!) ... counting points, exercising, tracking is a chore… but you do it because you love yourself enough to care for your body… a healthy happy version of you is better for everyone! And its the only one you've got so you really so have to mind it...

No one is perfect… no one… ask a size 8 person how they feel about their body and they'll have a list as long as yours!

If Beyonce hasn't got a problem... you haven't got one!!!

Everyone hates their belly, bum, thighs, double chin, legs.. but take a really good look… are they SO bad? Are people screaming in fear at your thighs in the street? Those thighs carry you about every day… they help you pedal on the bike rides with your friends, they jumped rope in school… they walked you down the aisle… they ran when you needed to be beside a loved one fast… they're yours and you need to love them… and by making the step to lose a bit of weight… you're only improving whats already a great pair of thighs! And improvement is always encouraged!

The most famous thighs ever! and the sexiest!

Loving yourself is a privilege… there are so many who don't have your thighs and would probably kill for them! and many less fortunate who see how you don't appreciate them…  Ever been in a hair salon and had the 'I wish I had your hair…' conversation, if we have straight hair, we envy curls… if we're curly, we'll buy every straightener going… we're never happy… and we should be… life is too short to be grumpy about curls!

Instead of looking at your body parts and labeling them as disgusting, gross, or repulsive, try and see them for the blessing that they are. They are part of YOU, and when you're negative towards yourself… it comes out in other ways... comfort eating. Give yourself a pat on the back for caring for your body and it carrying you through life so far..  How about a pedicure at the end of those thighs or even treat yourself to a nice body lotion… you know what makes your body feel good… Take time this week and do those things…

Bridget got it right!

I am an avid fan of Operation Beautiful… http://www.operationbeautiful.com  so if you even see a post-it note in the loo… it could have been me! NOTE: Um… work... these are not stolen from the supplies cabinet… ahem...  Sometimes all you need is to read that one little phrase to make you think… 'actually I'm looking good today!' and eventually you will start to believe it! A small thing can make a huge difference… ever got a compliment and felt amazing after it… simple things…

True story... I was having lunch with a friend one day in an establishment famed for its chicken wings… when we walked in… I felt like every pair of eyes was one me.. clearly I'm THAT important… in my mind people were thinking 'WHAT is she doing in here?' … I noticed a woman staring at me.. and when we ordered chicken wings to share, I spotted her looking my way… again, in my mind she was screaming 'the LAST thing you need is chicken wings fatty!' … She and her friend got up to leave and she approached our table.. I completely went into 'take the high ground.. don't LOWER yourself to her petty comments… you are ENTITLED to have your lunch'… as I braced myself thinking should I deck her one? she leaned in and asked me where I got my coat, she'd been looking for something similar and thought it was lovely… I nearly choked on fresh air!!! And it served me right… I've done it myself MANY time.. 'Love your scarf'… 'where did you get your handbag?' … ' I noticed your nails they are fab!" to total strangers… YES... I still cringe when people give me a compliment because I still can't see what they see… but I'm learning to appreciate it and just say 'Thanks!"

Every time you look in the mirror this week (and you all brush your teeth so I KNOW you've got mirrors!) … say one positive thing… I mean it… you don't have to go all 'YOU ARE TOTES GAWJUS' but if you did, I for one would applaud you! If you need to start with baby steps… 'I like this color on me' … 'I can really see a difference in my weight' .. 'I feel good today' … 'i love my hair this colour' … Tell yourself something good about YOU every day... And believe it... it'll start every day on a positive note!

Be kind to yourself… nourish your body… set aside some time everyday to do one thing for YOU.. maybe its your cleanse, tone and moisturise routine with your fav songs … maybe its a phone call to a friend… maybe its a new nail polish and a cup of tea… cause as the ad says… you're worth it!

Yes its me...Spooky Doll... get it?!

Clearly no one was spooked by Halloween.. over 100lbs lost so far! well done x

Trick or Treat??!!

yep.. the little feckers are coming! looking for all your goodies too!
Trick or treat?! well whats it to be? do you trick yourself with some clever ProPoints maths or treat your body like a rubbish bag and undo all the hard work!

Tips...

Stay Focused!
You've got Christmas in your sights.. its just one day and the goodies are for kids... not you...

If you're going out to trick or treating... have a bowl of zero ProPoint soup... make up a low  PP fruit smoothie... a baked potato, whatever .. just be full ... that the thought of adding chocolate to your stomach just sounds uncomfortable...

Apple teeth are SO easy to do... slice em up...
peanut butter and mini marshmallows! Simples!

Plan YOUR treat... you're marching about the neighbourhood, you come home knowing you've got your activity points and your weeklies to enjoy a dessert, a well earned bottle of wine, a chicken curry... what ever it is... its your treat to look forward too... instead of feeling sickly on chocolate bars and junk.. you know your favourite take out is there for you when its all done!

Banana ghosts and clementine pumpkins, practically point free!

I'm making these bad boys for Halloween! Mini Mummies!
Stay tuned!

Spooky stuffed pumpkin peppers...

Don't buy the goodies for the tricksters until the actual day of Halloween OR be very good at hiding stuff, stick it in the garage, shed, wardrobe till you need it... if it's sitting on the kitchen worktop.. it'll be opened and hoovered!

These are amazing, take a few minutes to make and look so cool.. and are zero PP!

Do a little Halloween basket just for you! Work out the mini bars and biscuits or crisps and have them! You know exactly how many ProPoints are in there and you can nibble away till they're all gone!

Make some Halloween treat for every one that's fun and healthy! You know I love my sugar free jelly and there's ALWAYS some in my fridge! Get creative with colours and some spooky wine gums...

Carving pumpkins? You can come away with more than a spooky jack-o-lantern. Roast the pumpkin seeds, and have some as a snack. Pumpkin seeds are a good source of protein, fiber and iron...

Expecting trick-or-treaters? Buy stuff you don't like! Not a Licorice fan... Dolly mixture all the way! Trick yourself!!

If you're having a bit of a 'do'.. then get creative.. there's LOADS of ideas out there! Mr. Pumpkin platter (below) would go down a storm with some chilli and garlic dips... Nearly Point free! The freaky frozen ICE hand (above) is easy! Some juices and your fav tipple for the adults and you stay in control!

Going to a Halloween party? Turn heads in your costume! Eat before you get there so you're not hungry and picking at the snacks!!!

Frankenstein fans check this link >>> HERE <<< for FAB ideas... LOVE the grapes idea!!!

Watching a scary movie? Skip the popcorn and have a cup of frozen berries for an icy treat...

There are loads of really easy healthy ways to enjoy Halloween without being sponsored by Cadburys! Your body isn't a rubbish bin... so don't treat it like one... Its just one day!

Fab losses continue on the challenge! Christmas is just around the corner!!!

Snack Attack.. WEEK 5!

SNACK ATTACK!

Midnight munchies… 'I'm staaaarrrving!' … 'Dinner was HOURS ago, I won't make it till morning' .. paws up who's said one or all THREE of those… yep.. thought so…

Snacking is one of the hardest things to control... unless you plan for it!

There is nothing bad about eating at night, as opposed to eating at any other time of the day.. If you eat 29PP per day, it's the same whether you eat them in the morning or at night. It's still 29PP … BUT … how much you eat and when can alter your energy levels… its how your body processes the food with the job it has to do... That's why the experts tell us to eat a big, healthy breakfast to give you energy to start your day. If you eat a ton of food at night, you don't get to burn it off before going to sleep… it sits on your stomach while you try to sleep!

The real problem with nighttime eating is that usually, it ends up increasing your food intake… You have a really good healthy day… Then it's time to wind down after dinner… Unless you're going to run a midnight marathon or do 500 push-ups at 2 am, you don't NEED any more food… You're done… or you should be! But mindless eating at the telly, a biscuit or 3 with a cuppa, 'sure the X-factor is on'… its like one of the 'rules' to have a glass of wine… with peanuts… and toast before bed… Every time you go into the kitchen something mysteriously ends up in your gob but never on your tracker!

Not eating after your main meal in the evening is a really good way to cut back on all those extra calories, plus your body isn't designed to be digesting food as it sleeps! You might fall asleep in a carb induced coma but you're more likely to wake up during the night and be a right grumpy sod in the morning! Plus heartburn and indigestion are rife! That old saying 'don't dine after nine' … is one to listen to!

Saying 'I'm not eating after my dinner' is all well and good and its a good habit to get into …  but you can snack if you want to… but make it stuff that you can control…

Sugar free jelly (make it with diet 7up and its tingly!), fruit skewers and stick a few marshmallows on them!

If you have the willpower… count/weigh out some sweets or nuts and enjoy them… These ones are 60 PP (you heard me!) for the bag and at the moment Dunnes is doing a BOGOFF deal… there's a few handfuls in it… I personally would have them hoovered in minutes! STAY AWAY from them!!!!

Have a slice of chicken, a yoghurt and some fruit if you miss a dessert, we're not starving, add a meringue to keep it sweet and low and LIGHT on your tummy!… we're bored, annoyed, and have made snacks at certain telly programmes a bad habit… Have a cup of tea… there's no law in this country that says you have to open a packet of biccies too though!

Allow some points for a slice of toast with a laughing cow triangle…

Brush your teeth… crisps do not taste the same once your sparklers are clean!

Being a crisp junkie, my go to method of diversion is nail polish! Now… its become a slight addiction but I don't eat crisps in the evening any more.. greasy nails and polish do not work! My addiction is being monitored! *coughs* >>> HERE <<<

Being hungry a few hours after you've eaten your dinner isn't an emergency… but ask yourself are you hungry… REALLY hungry.. its actually good to feel hungry… you're listening to your body and it will tell you what it needs!

Going to bed with a little grumble in your tummy isn't the end of the world… It isn't even terrible… It is OKAY to feel hungry… its about treating your body right… and if you have little people in the house you're setting them up with habits to last a lifetime... Snack responsibly!

Chart below.. finally! After my hols I think I was up about 2/3 lbs but I managed to pull it right back this week with a 2lb loss and a tracker that WW would frame its so perfect! If I've missed a weigh in for you please let me know.. there was a long list to go through and it was late last night when I finished it and I may have missed one, plus feel free to correct my maths!

Over 70lbs lost so far! That's a Victoria Beckham! 9 weeks to go... big push now people!!! Santa claus is coming!!!

BLTs

'Mmmmmmm pork chops and bacon .. my two favorite animals!'
Homer Simpson

Oh you thought I was going to babble on about one of these beauties... *drools*

Sorry kids... I'm on a tracking rant... BLTs.. in Weight Watchers camp, stands for - Bites, licks and tastes... We've all done it.. a lick of icing, a nibble of the other halfs cookie... "I'll only have a bite' .. 'No I won't have chips, salad for me .. well I'll just have one or two of yours!'... the kids didn't finish all their fish fingers.. but they managed to make their way into your gob! None of these little beauties ever see the light of day on the trackers of the world.. then we hop on the scales.. righteous.. 'wait for it.. I'm BOUND to be down I've been an ANGEL!' we tell the leader.. uh oh! UP! we're stunned! But I tracked.. I don't understand.. We're outraged...

Every single thing that goes into your gob... needs to be accounted for.. EVERY. SINGLE. THING!!!! Its really that simple! NASA can hold off on the research... we're not gonna cure cancer with this info... but as the meerkats say... simples!

TRACK PEOPLE.. just see the difference it makes... one week.. and be honest.. cause if you're lying on your tracker.. the only person you're fooling is you!

Doll x

"E" is for ...

ENTHUSIASM

That first week.. that first loss.. you and your pal started it together... you were going to walk EVERY day.. you were going to empty each others cupboards of all the rubbish.. yep.. full of beans! But after 5 weeks.. you're fed up.. you stayed the same this week and just looking at the tracker annoys you.. we've all been there and hit that place regularly.. but you've got to keep up the momentum! If you can't get excited about your journey to a better you, you'll never get there... yes, there will be set backs... life doesn't make it easy with cream cakes and ice cream.. but once you get that little lift.. that spurs you on... you will make it! The first compliment you receive.. you might hate hearing it.. and not be used to them... but it does stay with you.. The 'you're looking great!' is enough to spur you on for another week... meeting people who haven't seen you in ages.. and that miserable 1lb a week, which is really 20lbs but you just didn't notice, has magically transformed you so they're asking 'whats your secret?' ... that spring that pops into your step is enthusiasm! As long as its there you're on track! And there are lots of non scale victories that will encourage you too! That pair of jeans that was busting out all over.. not so snug! Channel that enthusiasm into you goal setting and you're half way there!

ENERGY

Its the one thing people always notice when they lose weight.. they can run upstairs and not need a cardiac unit at the top! They can chase and play with their kids.. once you start walking.. and you realise you've gone further this week than you did last week.. and it didn't feel any different... that's what I'm talking about.. you sleep better.. your skin is clearer... the positives outweigh the negatives twenty fold! You will lose toxins and fell less sluggish... The red bar on the energy rating is at the bottom for a reason! Overloaded... By not carrying that excess weight you're making your body a more efficient machine... and that's basically what it is... its your personal machine to take you through life, you don't get a second one.. parts are pretty hard to replace .. so look after it!

My fav quote at the moment....

EMOTIONS

GAWD I could rave on this one for years... happy - eat, sad - eat, angry - eat.. and throughout a weight loss journey you'll feel them all... and many more.. that girl in class who's down EVERY SINGLE WEEK... pffft! < Envy! It'll make you open your weight watchers bars and tuck in....  When you get that look when you're up... < sad - which turns into a bottle of wine and feck it, a pizza! OR... I'm down... YIPPEEEEE lets celebrate all the hard work with a bottle of wine and feck it, a pizza! We've all done it! Eaten our emotions... and whilst a bottle of wine and pizza won't ruin your efforts... you've got to learn to deal with the emotions.. yes that might mean a few tears... or a soppy movie but associating emotions with food is just not good... when you're happy.. be happy.. be content in your success.. and by all means celebrate but don't associate losing/gaining weight with a food reward! IF you're not happy... talk it out with someone.. geez even a whinge on twitter can make you feel a bit better sometimes... Let off some steam with some kick boxing or just dance about and shout.. Whatever you need to do to deal with them.. emotional eating can set you back on your weight loss journey...

EXERCISE

nag... nag... I know.. but one last time for the people in the cheap seats! As humans we are suppose to move about. It's only in recent decade that a sedentary lifestyle has become the norm... my gran used to hand wash everything.. Now I chuck everything into the machine press and button and turn on corrie! Our cave grannies were out killing animals, and god knows what else, aside from keeping the cave nice and tidy and an eye on cave granddad! We are meant to move, not sit still and watch the telly! No one is saying you need to become a marathon runner.. a 10 minute walk out the front door turn around and come back! done! repeat.. everyday... and you'll notice every walk... is a little farther.. and a little easier... and walking is free! With the nice long evenings now

EASY

Yes.. easy! You can make the entire process much easier on yourself if you stuck to your plan! When you go shopping.. bring a list.. do not deviate from it! Unless there's a mega deal on apples.. stick to the piece of paper!!! If you have crap in the house.. you will eat it! If you have the low PP treats you like.. then if the bad stuff isn't there.. you can't eat it! Simples!

I missed my class with all my galavanting but will catch one in town on Saturday...

Everyones doing so well!!! You're all so motivating!!!!

If I missed you or am still muddled up after last week just let me know!

Have a great week and a Happy Bank Holiday to the Dolls in the UK!
