100 days!

So... time to motivate this bottom of mine and get lighter for the next junket! I'm pretty sure I should have been an air hostess or at the very least be the wife of a hot airline pilot!!! Anyways... in 100 days I'm off on my USA road trip with my best pal and I want *cue spice girls song* I REALLY REALLY want... to have my 10th stone in my paws before I go... is it achievable? Absolutely... but will I sabotage myself? NOT THIS TIME MAMA! After my mental and wardrobe 'spring clean' it's time to focus on tracking, exercising, weighing portions and getting the last few stone gone!

So a 100 day countdown it is... my pink tracker will be with me at all times, a birthday gift that I'm going to use well! I've added my chart below, if anyone wants to try a challenge for themselves feel free to print it out and tag along with me! (I can email a PDF to anyone who would like it!) It's a 100 day countdown which will bring us to the 1st of August 2015 starting today! That's 14 weeks and 2 days! 1 lb a week is a stone lighter before you face the beach or bare all to the rest of the summer folk... think about it...

I'll be doing a weekly countdown post, I'm going to exercise everyday so I'll track my progress on instagram, just to keep me even more accountable! So if you fancy it, tag along with me and set yourself a goal... want to fit into that bikini? Get into the next stone bracket? get a silver 7 or even hit goal? We all need something to keep us motivated and summers nearly here, and August is the month when everyone is in holiday mode, how do you really want to feel when it comes around... it's easy to get sidetracked and 'wait till the kids go back to school' ...but the arms will be out, flip flops donned, shorts and swimming cossies with limbs bared all over the shop! We all know that feeling of dread... well that could be gone and filled to the brim with the feeling of confidence! Imagine what you could lose in 100 days! Who's with me?!

The girl on the right... x

I rarely feel the need for a little 'foreword' on my posts but this one is an exception... I have been lying awake worrying about it... it's been in the 'drafts' box for over a week now... I have thought about editing it, deleting it and just forgetting about it but it was written in a moment of clarity/rage/sadness when I saw this picture... but I decided to be brave and just 'let it go' as Elsa says... There were tears writing it... tears of sadness, tears of regret and happy tears... Today is an very big day for me... and I've finally realised that I need to cut that imaginary 'line' that was connecting me to the past and everything that just totally sucked about it... I have been stuck, very stuck... my epic February 'Spring-Clean-Your-Life-Doll...' has cleared the cobwebs... it's made me realise that I am definitely not the person I used to be (deep huh!?) nor is it the person I want to be anymore... I'm exhausted trying to be both... I've realised it's not about making everyone else happy, it's about making me happy... and if I'm honest, I'm scared to let the past go... I know nothing about my new comfort zone... This pit stop over the last couple of weeks has given me time to see how far I've come... what I've achieved and what I really, REALLY want to do for the rest of my time on this little rock spinning through space... so go easy with me... it's 'totes emosh' as the kids say...

The girl on the right... is on top of the world... no really, she's on top of the Rockefeller Centre in NYC... It's her birthday and she's smiling, so she must be happy right? It's sunny... she's in New York... what's not to be happy about?!? But she is dying inside... embarrassed, ashamed, mortified... she struggled to get there but pushed through the sore knees, aching back and made it, flustered and breathless but endlessly cheery, so she didn't show up her friends... she carried her coat the entire holiday to use it as a cover to hide her hideous body... she cringed when a stranger took her camera to take a group photo... knowing they were probably, no, definitely judging her... she breathed in deep, thinking it might make SOME kinda of difference... she stood on the edge so if anyone wanted they could cut her out of it... she panicked in restaurants that she shouldn't fit in a booth... she was deeply sad and depressed... she was miserable...

The girl on the left... is a very different birthday girl... she's at ground zero in Dublin... She's not smiling so much, this journey has been lonely and harder than she thought, but she's brave enough to take a selfie these days... something the girl on the right would never do... She can wear a dress to work and not feel as ashamed as she used to... she's judged on her worth, talent, personality and ability unlike the girl on the right... who got looked up and down many times before anyone took her seriously... she had to prove her worth over and over again... she feels 'normal' now...

The girl on the left, looks in the mirror sometimes and thinks... 'you look OK today...' She can face the world and not get shouted at on the street... or slagged off by some random stranger... people in shops don't look down their nose at her... people don't stare at her in restaurants or comment on what she eats... no one makes her feel like she shouldn't be there...  but sometimes she only sees the girl on the right in the mirror looking back...

I have asked friends and relations to send old photos they have of me... I have none... I dodged nearly every camera at every event and took pictures of everyone else, pulling a Mrs. Doyle from Father Ted attitude ... 'will you all just get in the picture and hurry up! I'm graaaand' kinda tone... So it's very difficult to see me as I really was... I thought I looked  'OK'... I was massively in denial... and very broken...

The girl on the right was a doormat... freeloaders took advantage of her kindness and people-pleasing ways... she thought that she had to do everything for everyone so they would like her... she got used and walked on by selfish people who thought they could dump their problems on her but never listen to hers... so she internalised them... got sad and lonely... she comforted her depression with food... she abused her body to ease the pain... Her real friends stuck by her... for that she will be eternally grateful...

The girl on the left... has a 'Fuck. Right. Off!' attitude to most things these days and it's very refreshing... she's kinda sad she lost that over the years, that she wasn't as strong as she should have been... she was hiding behind that blanket of fat, it protected her from the world but it also trapped her...

The girl on the right... she's gone...

The girl on the left... is both happy and sad about that... she mourns the loss of time and energy she invested in people, colleagues, 'family' who thought she was just useless and would never be good enough, and all the sleepless nights of self doubt... she's sad the girl on the right never went out and lived her bestest life... and that she missed out on so much... she pities her but she's happy to wave goodbye to her... and start living her life without feeling worthless... if you don't like her, she really doesn't care anymore... she doesn't have any time to waste worrying about it...

Sometimes you've got to take a step back and see how far you've come before you just give up... This is my 'pit stop' at the moment... No one finds it easy... No one knows all the answers... and everyone struggles... but to take a look at where you started and where you are now, it one of the best parts of the journey...

There's another girl to come... she's a bit of a diva... but she's gonna be mad craic lads... just you wait!

I'm DONE! weigh in 3...

My mojo has gone... sigh ... and when that happens I tend to wallow in 'poor old me' zone until someone or something kicks me in the butt! I was up this week and I knew it was coming... I didn't track... didn't drink my water.. and didn't do my normal exercise routine... I was all a bit meh...

The lovely Patsy Kensit at a Weight Watchers meeting...

But after my meeting I felt like someone had lifted the cloud... my leader is SO motivating... she's funny and normal and understands the weight loss process... she gets the frustration and how you can beat yourself up over a bar of chocolate... but it's also the other people in my class... we all come from different places in life.. there's a new mum... a bride to be and her entire family losing weight for the big day.. there's lots like me.. who just want to be healthy and feel better in their own skin... and even though our paths may not cross all week... we're all different ages.. different lifestyles... boys and girls.. but we're a little clique all to ourselves... when someone misses a class we miss them... when someone is up, we get 'em back on track... and this week that was me...

This week is about writing lists... one of the most important ones... your shopping list...

This works... write down only what you need... and stick to it! Plan your meals for the week... you'll save money and stop throwing out food that you don't use! Never mind the bargains and BOGOFF's... don't imagine you'll have guests and get treats 'just in case' because if they don't turn up.. you'll treat yourself!

Another list... that little card they give you in class.. or that little notebook where you write down your weight losses ... looking back you can see that you CAN do it... and you HAVE done it... and you ARE able to... and for fecks sake COME ON!!!

Another list is your list of goals... and I don't mean 'win a grammy' or 'snog George Clooney' there's a queue for him by the way... your own little list of goals... travel to see the great wall of china... learn to surf... get a pink retro bike (in my top five!)... and just leave them where you can see them... in your diary... on your phone... where you won't lose sight of the bigger picture... and the healthier future you have too! Who wants to be out of breathe on the great wall of china let alone on the fancy pink bike!

Your friends and family list.. saboteurs, get rid! cling ons, be gone! Have a list of people you can call on who know what you're doing and WHY! You're not trying to deprive them of a life of chocolatey happiness... but if they support you... then you support them... you want them to be healthy and happy... you also want to share a bag of chips after the pub instead of eating a whole bag on your own with a burger ... and god knows what else...

I also have another personal list... I've mentioned it on here before but was always afraid to share it... I'm getting very brave in my old age ... I've only ever shown it to my 3 closest friends and every single one of them cried (not my intention!) because they didn't know this is how I really felt about myself... they were sad that this is how I felt about me... and I was too... I'm so good at covering up how I really feel and they had no idea... I'm always the one to say 'I'm grand... don't worry about me...' when I'm not... but I read it last night and thought it was time to share... it's long... you've been warned!

I am done DONE DONE DONE DONE DONE!!!!!

Clearly I was DONE!!! but when I feel like I'm hitting a wall... I read it... I read it last night... and I realise that some things on the list don't even apply to me any more... Lots of things on that list don't even bother me now.. but it reminds me of where I've been and I don't want to go back there... and THAT gives me the kick in the pants I need...

I wrote it in anger... I was in a very sad place at the time... I remember crying whilst I typed it, hence all the typos and spaces ... but I was furious... furious at me! I know there are lots of things that sound the same... but looking back now I know those issues meant so much... Now I read it with a touch of sadness and realise that I'm a lot stronger and more capable than I ever thought I was... and I'd like to be friends with that girl and give her a hug...

SO if this is what it takes... do it! Write a list of where I guarantee by the time you've finished reading it you'll not only be back on the wagon... you'll be driving it!

Sorry its a long post... I do tend to babble...  Have a super Easter weekend and enjoy every second of it ... its a great time for family and friends and the Easter bunny! and whatever you do... don't regret or feel guilty over the weekend... life is very short...

Chart below.. everyone is flying!!! Skinny for summer!!! I'm on a mission to be down next week if I have to chop off a limb! If I've forgotten you or missed your weigh in.. shout... also I think I've got all the Emmas right! eek!

#BOBBlogChallenge Week 7!

Nearly done with the Best of Beauty Challenge! Where does the time go?!? This week Your favourite beauty treatment!

Now most of my friends and anyone who follows me on instagram knows I'm a nail junkie and there are several haunts where I go to get my mani/pedis… but recently my wax gal decided to hop it to Australia and leave me in the hairy lurch! So I decided I needed a new beauty Salon… I know… I know… the dread…

Every gal knows going in to a salon for the first time can be a bit intimidating and when some hair free skinny minnie rocks up and makes you feel like your imposing on them, it's a complete turn off… No one wants to feel like they're on a production line when they're handing over their hard earned cash… I've actually had the skin tests done in a couple of salons and not bothered going back just because of the dismissive attitude! Plus you've got to get down to your pants and show these strangers all your bits… Now if you're confident with your body … go you… when you're not, it can just end up a terrible experience and I know this first hand… being overweight you can feel even MORE self conscious (and you wouldn't think that was even possible!) … I've also decided that since I've lost this weight, my treats need to celebrate that! You do feel so good afterwards! Yet even my skinny friends dread it, so finding somewhere with people who are friendly and approachable is number one on the list… cause once you've found it… you'll stick with 'em for good (unless they scoot off to Oz!)

Boys … if your still reading this far in… when us girls are in beauty salons it's not all pillow fights in our knickers, sorry … go have a bun to cheer yourselves up…

So my research was vast and wide, I'm painfully insecure so I was really looking for somewhere special and in the process I had many little things tried and tested behind my ears and elbows… BUT I have found my new little mecca! Vanity Rooms in Stepaside!

From the first phone call to that awkward 'roll over' on the waxing table was, dare I say it enjoyable! And the place is FABLISS!!! A pretty pink sanctuary at the foot of the Dublin hills… and it's luxury, is all in the details… from the 'chandelier' lights.. to the crystal door knobs… everything has been considered! You just feel like its a complete treat being there!

Once the patch tests were done, I got a follow up email to see when I wanted to book in and when… no harassment… no full inbox… On the day I got the patch tests done, I was greeted by the lovely Amy, who is so professional yet bubbly and chatty without the 'hairdresser' questions, I was immediately put at ease! Once I got the all clear… I booked myself in for a full leg wax… and these thunder thighs have been in hibernation for the winter so she had her work cut out for her… If this went well then I was signing myself up for all the other necessities!

Even the jaunt up the stairs sets you up for the atmosphere of the place!

The 'eye' chair bathed in natural light with a view of Dublin no less (on your tip toes)!

So… to the treatment itself They use Waxperts Wax which if you haven't heard about it yet, you need to google and try it out Tangent their 'Ingrown pads' are legendary at this stage and sort out all your skin problems NOT just your legs! I swear! I digress… The treatment room was clean, pretty and warm enough to strip off in… there was background music but not the kind you're trying to tune out or sing along with… it was just right…

The waxing itself, well… I mean come on… pouring hot was on yourself and then ripping it off isn't going to be pain free but with Waxperts Wax it's not that 'MY SKIN IS PEELING OFF FFS!!!!' kinda hot… and Amy clearly knew what she was doing! A pro all the way! I'll need to do a post on the wax itself just to explain it better but it was over before I knew it! A little chat about the 'do's and don'ts' and it was 'I'll see you outside when you're ready!'

Other things spotted  they have proper pedicure chairs A MUST!!! Not just for you as a customer to feel comfortable, and lets face it a pedicure for most of us is a treat! But for the therapist too, it's gotta kill them to sit on a little stool and faff about with a basin like some salons do …  there's three here so you can come with a pal and they've a fab selection of colours to choose from! Miss C if you're reading this, it's on our list!

Aaaaaannnnnddddd you can too all your little shopping bits there too!

ALL your goodies are here… from the 'Waxperts Ingrown pads' to all the Cocoa Brown tanning goodies for the tan gals out there and loads more!

You never need to run out again!

If you're a Karora fan they stock the CC cream and tanning products
as well as the now famed 'Cleanse Off Mitt' which Amy highly approves of!

Check them out online >>> HERE <<<
and if you haven't voted in the Image Beauty Awards I'd recommend giving them a vote
I was super impressed!

It's not about being BFFs with the girls in the salon you use, but it's building a rapport with them, feeling comfortable and relaxed and it's 10/10 as far as I'm concerned … You can be there in 10 minutes in a car from Dundrum shopping centre and there's plenty of parking… PLUS you get a loyalty card, so each trip you gain some beauty points to another treat!

And lads if you're still reading this far, even though its super pink, they have treatments for you too!

Week 7! Only one more to go! *sniffles* Don't forget to check out Samantha from All The Buzz blog who's running this challenge…  >>> HERE <<< and tweeters can follow all the Beauty Blogger posts under #BOBBlogChallenge!

Happy St. Patricks day!!!

This week is a little celebration of the journey so far… The Skinny Doll is officially 4! (All my initial posts were private cause I was such a scaredy cat!) and well that old cliche 'if I can do it anyone can!' rings true here... You can have fun and still lose weight and be healthy... If you're stuck... Take one meal at a time and focus on why you want to do it... And know that you can!

Thank you to everyone who listens to me rant and rave and those who do the challenges and those who point things with me and for me, the comments, the laughs and the tears... Those who celebrate the losses and sometimes the gains…
and… and… and… well thank you…

Hope you all had a lovely St. Patricks Day xxx

PS: New challenge on the way!

Pamper Products - #BOBBLOGCHALLENGE week 4!

Week 4 and yet we haven't aged a day! Best Of Beauty Challenge is here again!

This week *drum roll*  'Pamper Products'!!!

Soap & Glory… one of my favorite brands… everything smells delicious… and doesn't cost a kidney… This 'Glow Lotion' is one of my favs for going out… remember when you were a teenager and it was ALL about the glitter?! Well this is the grown up version.. it give your skin a lovely sheen that just makes you glow without looking like a Las Vegas showgirl on those nights you wanna sparkle a little! Use it anywhere or as the box says 'apply tactically to emphasize your best assets!' Cleavage laydeeezzzz cleavage! Great on the pins too if you're going bare legged! Retails in Boots for a mere €7.75!

Clarins Eau Ressourcante … This is the product I use from time to time to wind down… I know… I know… who needs a product to wind down… BUT… after your bath before you get into bed to read for an hour… even a small spritz on your pillow will make you breathe a little deeper and just chill out… this is my 'yankee candle' and it lasts a lot longer… it's not a perfume and doesn't sell itself as one… it's a 'rebalancing fragrance' … don't roll your eyes… it is amazing but a bit pricey! (I got mine in a pharmacy hamper as a pressie!) … If you ever have a facial with Clarins … that soothing relaxing smell they spritz all around you… is this! After a long stressful day… this will help you chill… as the kids say!

Whats in it that makes it SO good then…

Essential Oils:
Basil - refreshing
Florentine Iris - refined fragrance
Virginia Cedar wood - promotes serenity
Siamese Benzoin - provides comfort

Non-fragrant plants:
Sarsaparilla - energizes
Robinia - softens, soothes
Longan - relieves stress

If you're a Clarins fan then Christmas and birthdays are the time to get this in a goodie bag! Otherwise it's €41.50 in Brown Thomas.. eek!

Next time you're passing the Clarins counter have a spritz and let it settle…

Silk Oil of Morroco… Now I know there's a bandwagon about argan oil but personally I love the stuff and this is one of the better products out there… SILK is an Aussie product and this pump version is not greasy nor will it weigh your hair down… again a little goes a long way and you wouldn't be using this product every day, its a treat for your skin and hair… and the smell… is… FANTSTIC… its very summery and as it soaks straight into your skin and hair, there's no greasy fingers or worse limp locks! I swear…  as soon as scratch & sniff blogs are out this will be the first thing up here!

You can purchase these online >>> HERE <<< My 125ml bottle above cost €45 but you can get a 12ml, which doesn't sound like a lot but it is, for €12 worth every cent!

You know the way summer is on the horizon… and our little piggies will be out for all the see… My aussie upbringing means my feet are like leather… I'm barefoot ALL the time, winter and summer, and hard skin is a constant battle… nothing like going for a pedicure and they're looking for grinder to get that skin off! Scarleh! Last year I spotted these, Footer exfoliating socks on @VonFluffy blog 'Not Just Inside'  >>> HERE <<< and honestly its like having new feet!

The process isn't a pleasant one for anyone who loves you and that's why you should be doing it now whilst your feet are all wrapped up in tights and boots!

First you slip your feet into the socks which to be honest are like two freezer bags full of gel… I'm not really selling it here am i? Then piggies up for an hour and rinse them off in the shower and stare at your feet and wonder why they're not brand spanking new… then tweet me I'm a fibber… but gals… give it time… cause the magic happens over the next 5 - 10 days… wear old tights and socks and don't be tempted to 'help' by buffing off, pumicing or picking at your heels! (pretty huh?!) but trust me by the time you get to day 8 you will have shed that skin like a snake and you'll have perfect tootsies! Sandals at the ready! Pedicures ahoy!

Note they've gone up to €24.99 in Boots but for a once a year treat its money well spent!

And finally… Face masks… now don't get me wrong I have a couple of expensive face masks that are fab but these are in my weekly pamper session! The Montagne Jeunesse face packs are €1.60 in my local SuperValu and pharmacy… the selection is HUGE selection from rehydration masks to nose strips for black heads to anti puffy patches for under your peepers when you've been on the tiles…

AND for those of us counting points etc… there are TWO choccie versions… as Charles Schulz said…

All you need is love. But a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt.

and if we can't eat it… we can wear it for 10 minutes! The Chocolate Mask for normal, dry and t-zone skin is a deep cleansing one which smells DIVINE but then I haven't had chocolate since 2002, allegedly… ahem… the White Chocolate - Ultra Deep Cleansing Mask smells a bit synthetic but I'm not a white chocolate fan so that might just be me… the Very Berry Exfoliating Mask however is fab! SuperDrug have a great range of these to choose from also…

In this weather its a nice little 15 min treat to your skin… and at under €2 these are a little pick me up that won't hurt your skin or your wallet!

Feet up and watch the Muskateers on a Sunday evening!

What you should look like…

What you will look like…
