Savoury Snack Bites...

One of the clues in the #wwphotoday on Instagram last week was 'Sweet or Savoury' I am most definitely a savoury gal! Crisps and crackers are one of my main trigger foods, lets not get me started on cheese! I can't even walk down the crisps aisle in the supermarket if I'm not in a zone or I'll cave! I'm weak! Getting a savoury fix is just as hard as getting a choccie sweet fix! Some bags of crisps are over 20SP, so here's a range from Low Low called Snack bites, they're the little DIY jobs where you add the relish and cheese... great for a fix and perfect for lunch boxes, no mess or carting relish about in mini jars... The cranberry one is definitely my fav! Anyone tried these?

Later = Never!

Anyone stuck in the 'I'll wait till...' zone...

Anyone? Own up! I'm currently not going to my pool because the kids pool is broken and the ankle biters are all in the adult pool till school is back... even typing that sounds stupid!  The pool is open all day and it's not full of kids all day but I'm using it as an excuse to get out of swimming till it's empty again.. ridiculous!

Excuses are the death of success... and we're all so good at them... a classic excuse is 'it's raining' it's ALWAYS raining here... how are we not used to it!?! As far as I know no one has dissolved in this country yet!

We can do a lot of damage in 2 weeks, but if we're on holidays and enjoying it then it's all good... but lazin' around waiting for the next 'monday' to pass us by we'll never truly be back on the wagon and that's where the damage gets done!

I've done this so many times... but this time even when I've been stuck, really stuck, I've not just abandoned ship... not any more because before when I decided I'd wait for the next 'Monday' to come along, I've gained every pound back and more!

So, take a few baby steps today to just keep yourself afloat until you're back in the driving seat again... x

Brunch club - Farmhill

Brunch Club is back! In my 'I've lost my mojo' phase I wasn't as sociable as I should've been, I'ma bit of a wallower, and you all know how much I love a poached egg so it was time to get back out there! Seriously I think it would be my death row dinner... I know...  So to kick start Brunch Club again we went to Farmhill in Goatstown... this is very close to where I live so I'm very spoilt! It's about 15 mins walk away from Dundrum Town Centre so if you're sick of the food court food, you can park here for free and really have something tasty and special! It's a stroll down to the UCD sport grounds too if you're thinking of walking it off first! A calorie deficit is always a good thing no?

There were three of us dining and it was a typical Irish summers day... wet and miserable...

There was a great choice, from the usual suspects as well as beer battered cod and a burger that I spotted whizzing past our table, which is on my list next time!

It's got a warm and cosy feel to it..

with loads of seating and you're not squashed up to your neighbours!

If there's a gang of you, not a problem..

The glass all round the facade means there's a lovely light in the place
and you can people watch or stare out at the rain from nearly every table!

You know when people are hungover and they just don't want to talk!

Now, the food...

Adapting the 'bacon and sausage' to become 'bacon and chicken' wasn't problem at all,
complete with an egg & chips... Perfect hangover food!

The 'Farmhill breakfast' aka the full Irish looks like so...
apparently the sausages were 'savage'...
lovely toasted brown bread too!

and I, of course, went for my 'usual' ... poached eggs with bacon on sourdough...

perfection...

Did it pass the 'is-it-runny-enough-Skinny-Doll-test'? Absolutely! I mean look at it!

It's a lovely spot in a lovely part of the city and well worth a look!

Harvest Morn Rice Cakes!

Sweet or savoury rice cakes can really fill the gap when you need a quick fix! Great for assembling lunches too when you get a bit board with bread and wraps!

The caramel flavour rice cakes from Aldi's Harvest Morn range are just lovely! A dollop of yoghurt and pile em up with fruit and dessert is sorted! For those with a crisp addiction *raises both hands* the salt & vinegar ones are yum!

I've done the SP per rice cake but also if you can't just have one! Diet maths ahead!

Something to relish...

Sometimes it's hard to change up lunches, salads and sandwiches can get a little dull... I'm a huge gherkin fan... I'd eat them straight from the jar, picked onions too... so here's some relishes out there to mix things up a bit... I can't recommend The Scullery Cucumber Pickle highly enough, if you're a fan like me , definitely try it out... I picked up mine in Tesco... Stock up on these beauties before the winter shelves get stocked! x

Whatever the problem is...

Nope... There are no answers in the fridge! I've looked!

The fridge is somewhere we can run away to when we really REALLY can't run anywhere! Wouldn't you love to just grab your bag and passport some days and just book the first plane outta here?

Being a grown up means, mortgages, bills, work, commitments, children, families... the list goes on... 9 times out of 10, we come last on that list and we think the only person listening to us lives in the freezer...We've all got those two pals Ben & Jerry yeah?!

I'm a HUGE emotional eater...

HAPPY = EAT
SAD = EAT
ANGRY = EAT
SCARED = EAT

I'm snookered! Being bulimic and binge eating just makes my fridge (and also, FYI, my car!) my BFF! It's always there for me... it doesn't judge me... and it all tastes good... Does it make me feel any better? Hell no... it just keeps calling until I eat everything that's in sight and makes me sick!

That empty void can't be filled with ice cream or cake or chocolate... That anger can't be tamed with toast and cheese... sure it keeps it quiet when your chewing, but when its all finished and all the food is gone, you're still going to be angry, sad, hurt (insert relative emotion here) and feeling sick as a pig with a sugar hangover incoming!

It's the way we've been brought up too... there's as much damage to be done diet wise at a funeral, as there is at a wedding... We celebrate with food, we all get together and share dinners, brunches, our lives revolve around food and that's a very important thing for our culture and us as people... Our mothers comforted us with food, when we were sad, food cheered us up... but some of us (ME!) didn't learn to detach from those feelings...

So how do we get around it? Honestly if you're feeling miserable, lock yourself in the bathroom and have a bloody good cry! It genuinely is a great idea! Get outside and walk it out... When you listen to your favourite song walking outside, your head calculates things better... If you're wallowing in your emotions sitting on the couch, you'll hear the food screaming from the kitchen! We all know how loud a tub of ice cream can be!

If you've got something on your mind, write it down somewhere, seeing it on paper takes if out of your head and puts it somewhere safe but it's not between your two ears for a little while... Tell someone, someone who will understand, a counsellor, a friend, a sibling, someone who will listen (even if it sounds so silly!) and you know the old saying 'a problem shared is a problem halved!' it's SO true!

To really fight the demons in the fridge, just remember you stock it! Like I always say if you don't buy the junk, it's not in the house you can't eat it! Same with your emotional health... Surround yourself with positive people, people from your class, in a FB group, a colleague in work, people who want only the best for you and try to not over think everything (not as easy as it sounds!) and remember if you're listening to your favourite tune to cheer yourself up, wearing headphones means you won't hear the biscuit tin calling!

It's a new dawn... it's a new day...

Today is not just "another Monday"... it's the first Monday of a brand new month... it's the start of a brand new week... and it's the first Monday of your successful weight loss journey...

It's time to forget the last few weeks, the last few starts, what's done is done... We can't change the past... Regretting gains, or thinking that you didn't try hard enough won't make any difference to the outcome, we are still standing here and todays weight is our start line... regardless of what 'coulda, shoulda, woulda' been, this is our starting point... Letting the past go and taking that big leap of faith today and believing yourself is really possible! We can make good decisions starting right now, we can set mini goals... set targets to reach and know that if we're realistic we can get them all!

The past is in the past and it's best to leave it right there... Set yourself the task today of setting the goals you really want that you know you can achieve down on paper... take 10 / 20 however many  minutes you need to just write down what you really want... REALLY want... and promise yourself you'll do whatever it takes, because you CAN... We've got the power in our hands so lets take control of 2016 and give the rest of the year a run for it's money!

I'm just gonna leave this here... x
