You can stop looking now!

You can all stop looking... I've found it... the holy grail of popcorn!!! No really!!! Walkers Sensation Popcorn in Sweet Indian Spices is all you're ever going to need again... *drools*

As a savoury gal my 'research' in crisp tasting is extensive... all for you people you know... Selfless ... I'm just selfless... I haven't even tried the Cinnamon & Salt or the Thai Sweet Chilli (if you have comment below and let us know if they're just as yummy!) but the Sweet Indian Spices is just the hit for anyone who can't be bothered with chocolate...

The damage... 13PP for the large 90g pack or 4PP for the 30g portion (diet maths again!) but to me... worth every ProPoint!

Sweet Indian Spices - 13PP per 90g pack (4PP per 30g portion)

Sweet Cinnamon & Salt - 13PP per 90g pack (4PP per 30g portion)

Thai Sweet Chilli - 13PP per 90g pack (4PP per 30g portion)

Lola... la la la la loooolaaaaaa - Mani-Monday

This weeks Mani-Monday is one of the nicest coral polishes out there at the moment in my opinion... Lola polishes can be purchased in M&S and this one is called Prom Queen (you know I bought it for the name don't ya...) It's SO pretty... the pics don't do it real justice! Its peachy pink, its the kind of polish you really have to look at twice and wonder 'Is it pink or peach?', although it looks darker in the bottle but two coats and your set...

It has a slightly narrow brush so I got four strokes per nail, but with very good coverage... to add a bit of sparkle... a light brush of Maybelline Brocade in Knitted Gold which has a 'rose' gold kinda look to it... (left over from the Xmas bling!)

Ta da!  I think its the perfect summer colour... a bit on the pricey side at €9, but well worth it as a treat!

Don't be afraid! - Motivation Monday

Firstly thanks for all the love last Monday... I was cringing/terrified/proud/scared to hit the publish button but you're a lovely lot! Mwah... What it taught me is its OK to be me... Perhaps I shouldn't be so scared...  We shouldn't be embarrassed or ashamed of who we are... no one is perfect in this world... in fact we're all our own version of perfect!!!

Everyone on the planet hates something about themselves, bat wings, thighs, butt, boobs... One of my favourite beauty, super model types is Cindy Crawford... I have all her DVDs and work out stuff... I think she's beautiful... I'd kill for her 80s hair!!! Her best quote ever... 'Even I don't wake up looking like Cindy Crawford'...

This week be happy to be in your own skin... lots of people who can't walk would kill for your legs, they're strong and work hard to get you about... people who are sick would love to be able to go to the park and breath deep... Be proud of you and your body ... and be proud you're making a better, healthier version of you!

And thanks for the love it was very much needed xxx

The dark side of dunking...

You know how they say dark chocolate is better for you than milk and white chocolate? Well personally one small square of dark choccie is more than enough for me... Weight Watchers have brought out new chocolate digestives and they're yummy..

I'm not a big biscuit fan, gimme a box of Pringles anyday... And I usually bake when I know I'm having guests... But these little beauties are perfect... Just enough to make a cup of tea worth it... And you get that chocolate hit without all the guilt... Buy a pack as a back up when  family 'surprise' you... They're 1PP each and come in a resealable packet of 12... Fan 'em on a fancy plate and your guests will be none the wiser...

Me...

Ahhh Monday, here you are again... you know most weeks, something flies along my twitter timeline or pops up on Facebook or I spot something online that inspires my Monday Motivation post... But last week something happened that made me think this Monday it should probably be about me... *wipes sweat off brow* they should give out bravery awards in Weight Watchers ya know!!!

Last Thursday I walked into my Weight Watchers class thinking maybe, just maybe, I had hit the 100lb loss, I had been fecking about for about for weeks but my tracker was perfect... I'd walked... drank water... swam... surely this week...

At a glance, the room looked a little different... I spotted my usual leader wasn't taking the class... Instead there was someone beside the scales, someone I felt I already knew... her before and after pics have been all over the place... I read her blog all the time... I follow her on Facebook... she's a Weight Watcher leader herself ... and all my Irish followers would know her from her amazing blog the Niptuck Food Blog!!! I know right!!!

You know they say you should never meet your heroes... Well lemme tell ya... she is awesome! I couldn't bring myself to tell her who I was, I'm a big chicken, roasted and stuffed with gravy... oooohhhh... (mental note: never write blog posts when hungry!)...  plus I'm painfully shy about admitting who I am, people who know me in real life would never guess that being I'm so gobby... I always think people have an expectation and they will be bitterly disappointed when they meet me... But I was so distracted by her and her fab figure (and cute sneakers BTW!)... her before and after pics were at the scales large as life and they are SO inspirational! So when I stood on the scales, it took me a minute to notice that the 3.5lb loss had pushed me over the 100lb loss!!!

Amazing? Yes! Inspirational? Yes! Motivating? Yes! Hardest thing I've ever done?! Abso-feckin-loutely!!

It has been hard... really hard... disheartening... I've wanted to give up so many times.. I have binged... not tracked... cried... been so angry with myself... driven round the roundabout on the way to class twice talking myself into going, people of Terenure I'm not lost I swear... I've had two amazing leaders and honestly that's half the battle... I'm happy to get a telling off every Thursday when I know I've been bold... but I also want someone who understands how much I want this and when I've tried hard and the results aren't showing, I just need a bit of a lift... both of them have done that... But for every 'you've stayed the same' or 'You're down a half pound..' Here I am, 7stone 3.5lbs lighter... in my mind, I'm over the hardest part and I'll tell you why...

Before I started "properly", you know that 'Oprah moment' you're suppose to have... well something just clicked... I'd had enough, I was so fed up with myself... My knees hurt... I had no neck... I was breathless doing the smallest things... I was judged for my size... Not my skills or personality... But I stuck with it this time... I'm now at a point where some of the things on my 'I'm Done' list >>> HERE  <<< are well and truly done... I'm never going back there... Below are my weigh-in cards for the last two years (I re-wrote them out neatly)... It's baby steps... This weight didn't go on overnight... I didn't go to bed and wake up 10 stone heavier... I'm an emotional gal... Food was my friend when I thought I had none... I was at a very low point... Slowly but surely, I've taken better care of myself and stopped worrying about others who didn't worry about me... I'm a people pleaser... and I realised I had to start pleasing myself first, put ME at the top of my list for a change...  Despite the number on the scales... I can buckle a belt on a plane, FYI never scream in delight in an enclosed plane... ahem... I can walk upstairs without stopping... I can shop in 'normal' shops... I've got my collarbones back, nearly... My blood pressure / skin / energy levels are all better! I can walk into a restaurant and not care who is staring at me ... I'm having my lunch and pointing it so feck off... I appear to have developed a bit of an attitude problem too!

Sometimes we get so hung up on a number... Here's a non scale victory that happened to me a couple of weeks ago coming through passport control in Dublin Airport...

Security guard: NEXT!

Me: *hands over passport trying to look like I'm not a terrorist* (What is that about?!?)

Security guard: *silence* *looks at me... looks at passport* ... *looks at me again.. looks at passport*  *finally speaks...* 'Is this your passport?'

Me: 'um.. Yes... God aahhh ...'
*panics and pulls a face that makes me look like I've a handbag full of cocaine*

Security guard: 'Have you lost a bit of weight?'

Me: 'oh... um.. yes' *beetroot face* 'I'm doing weight watchers...
Down 6 and a half stone so far...'

Security guard: 'Fair play to ya ... Next!'

so yeah...

Morto!!! I wanted to kiss him but the queue behind me was massive and everyone was tired, wanted to get the hell outta there... but if I was a little bit braver and a bit more mental, I would have thrown a look at the 'judgey' people in the queue and shouted 'So there!' ... Well that, and I'm pretty sure that safety glass is tough... and I don't want to be done for assault in the airport...  Ahem...

So.. What's the bottom line? How did I do it? What miracle was it? Simple...

I didn't give up this time...

Losing weight takes time... It doesn't matter what plan you follow, ProPoints, F&H, Syns, counting calories... it's healthy eating, portion control and exercise... and whatever suits YOU... people often tell me to follow this or that plan... no thanks... I'm happy doing it my way and well done you for doing it yours... but clearly this is what works for me... when I stick with it...

Life happens, and some weeks your body will go against you... but don't give up... periods, bloating, the ice cream man, that one cocktail that turned into a full blown night with a full Irish the next morning ... no matter what, there will always be a wedding, birthday, BBQ, but just enjoy it... In 100 years time will anyone worry that you were ONLY down half a pound last week?! Get a little perspective, life is too short to be miserable...

Measure yourself, that muscle V fat is true... and some people get so upset not realising they're toning up... if only they tried on a tight pair of jeans they would realise their body is changing! My three rolls of belly fat are now just one big belly... yes its big but if you throw me a 'OMG she's huge' look... I'll whip out my WW card so fast you'll be blinded by the silver sevens on the back!

and, finally... half a pound is a massive achievement!!! Don't knock it... look at my cards... it's slow and steady... there's ups and downs... and there's still a way to go.. I'm no where near my goal yet but my body is now at a place where I can work with it better... swim faster... walk further... I feel better about myself... and I know its a cliche but seriously, if I can do it... anyone can...

I started WW many times but this is when I decided enough was enough and I started to record my losses properly on the 2nd August...

Wanna hear something funny... I thought by starting in August, no one would see me in class until the September 'rush' and surely I'd have given up by then...

Whatever you do this week... take it a day at a time... a meal at a time... an hour at a time... but remember you're doing it for you... so don't give up on yourself! xxx

*hides under desk*

Happy 4th of July!

Happy Independence Day to all the fabulous American folks on the other side of the pond! A little 'red, white & blue' snack tribute to you all as you celebrate today!

With all the berries in season now... its easy to do a low ProPoint snack star spangled banner style... I LOVE strawberries... remember my Easter carrots... well these are a twist on those... they're all over the place at the moment...

White chocolate, great selections in the supermarkets at the moment...

Blue sugar... SO easy to make... get a ziploc freezer bag... a dollop of blue food colouring GEL... not liquid and just zip them in and work the colour through the sugar...
ready in minutes no faffing about with drying it!

Melt your chocolate... and let it cool slightly, if its too hot the sugar will just melt into it and you'll be left with blue chocolate...

Roll it gently in the sugar...

and ta da!! French fans take note!

Another easy USA style snack is 'Eton Mess' ...

Chop in your fruit...

Crush half a meringue on top...

Add yoghurt /creme fraiche / squirty creme take your pick...

Repeat the layers again...

Then decorate!
Milky Bar Stars are a nice one to add to give you that hint of chocolate...
you could also add a chocolate shot to it...

And serve... Mine came in at 4PP each including the chocolate...
the low ProPoint yoghurt >>> HERE <<< they would be 2PP per serving...
bulk up the fruit too.. think raspberries, cherries... just go for it...

For cupcake toppings... try jelly beans... and those little tubes of icing for writing...

Cake 'pearls' ...

My personal fav... jelly beans and blueberries....

Have some fun with them... the more fruit you add the better....

and the patriotic strawberries! Yes, they will leave your tongue blue!

Fruit kebabs are another simple recipe to make...
Marshmallow - strawberry - blueberries - strawberry - marshmallow
Melt some chocolate and dip away!

and for that added touch...
yes, I know... I've gone mad with my dotting tool
(I'm really crap at doing straight lines!) ... but cute huh?!?

Happy 4th of July everyone ...

Up Up and AWAY!

Aer Lingus have a new on board menu for anyone heading off on holidays... I have emailed them a couple of times asking for the nutritional values but they seem to have enough to be doing with strikes and the like, that I've not heard a squeak from them... so, on my last junket a couple of weeks ago I 'borrowed' a menu and did my best to see what I could ProPoint... Yes, I have now sunken to taking pics of strangers left over wrappers... apologies to the man in seat 3A... I WAS taking pics of your sandwich wrapper for a very good reason... ahem ... anyhoo...  here's the low down...

Anyone flying to the sun from Ireland knows it can be between 3 - 5 hours depending on where your sunbed is... to be honest I'm the gal who will bring her sandwich from home wrapped in tinfoil, a young Mrs. Doyle so to speak ... not cause I don't want to spend the money but my OCD and the 'who has been touching my food' issues are immense ... I'm happy to eat in the airport but again the choices aren't really that weight watcher friendly and the first thing you spot in Dublin airport is the bar at the bottom of the escalator and Burger King at the top!

After a G&T and a mad dash to the gate... water purchased... tip.. if you're flying in the afternoon to somewhere hot... get you're H2O here before you hop on the plane... it means once you've landed you're not looking for a shop... and when you've checked in and hit the room you're not gasping for something to drink... Here's  your choices on board...

The Fresh Fruit salad gets a big yes from me, it was lovely and cold, all for 0PP... 1PP for the mint and lime dressing... which to be honest isn't that nice... I like my lime soaked in gin... ahem... see how I prioritise my ProPoints!

The muffins didn't even get a look in ... real butter, you're talking 2PP...  jam, another 2PP before you even count the muffin!

The 'Irish Breakfast' is only on the morning flights unless you pre book it online... I'd hazard a guess at 12PP - 14PP not including the OJ...  and not even an egg at that... plus €7.50??!!!? I'm not mean with money but I've had a peep at it and you'd be hungry after it!

I picked the cheese board not wanting to indulge in a sandwich...10PP ... yes TEN! The oatcakes were very nice and filling,  and I'm a relish gal through and through... I'm a savoury gal, so it was this over a packet of pringles! but still 10PP is a lot for what is essentially a snack...
(please note the 'perfect with a glass of wine...' also works with gin... just sayin')

There's a tuna bap... which is probably one of the better choices as its not drowning in mayo...

The Cheesy Mister weighs in at 12PP ... thank you Mr. 3A

Chicken and Stuffing sandwich is 9PP ...

No values for the Egg & Rocket Blaa... this does have mayo on it (I was on the aisle seat so I got a good look at the trolley) .. so I'm thinking it's going to be higher than the others...

The turkey sandwich comes in at 8PP the best that I could ProPoint ...

There's an adult and kids (below) snack pack with cheesy bits, crackers, hummus... (that's got to be spelt wrong on that pack no?) and some chocolate so there's lots of bits to add up... and you'll still only say to yourself... 'sure I only had a snack' and hit the tapas bar!

The bold stuff...

The drunky stuff...

and the 'god I can't believe its over' stuff...

No matter what... just remember.. you're on your holidays... you'll be back to zero point soup and water before you know it... so enjoy you're hols... relax... breathe  nd bring back lots of happy memories ... because it'll be over before you realise... oh and don't forget your SPF!!!
