Snatts - S'not so good!

If you've spotted these and thought.. OOOOOHHH oven baked.. and garlic and parsley… mediterranean you say… 100% natural with olive oil … sure it reeks of health… one bag of these is 17 PP and like most crispy type things you're buying half a bag of fresh air!

A 30g serving is 4 PP and to be honest if you can eat 30g and walk away… fair play to you… these are the kind of snacks you could mindlessly eat and wonder where the bag went to! 30Gg isn't a lot and you could hoover 17 PP before you even realized it!

You've been warned…

DO THEM!

WHAT are you waiting for? and WHY? and for WHO?

This week… put yourself first… trust me… the planet will still turn and noses might be a little out of joint but I can guarantee that the people draining your time and energy will find solutions to their problems and work stuff out for themselves! If people know they can get away with it… they will and will continue to until you stop them…

All those things… get planning and do them! Life's too short…

Prawn Satay recipe...

Here's the recipe for the Prawn satay as promised from Friday … Part of my ongoing homemade Chinese experiment!

I LOVE satay.. and a chicken satay from my local Chinese is 18 (EIGHTEEN!!!) ProPoints… and a skewered chicken satay from the starter is 5 PP for ONE! so I had to do something… after many attempts this is the best I've come up with… don't forget to add your rice…  10g = 1 PP

First up you'll need prawns, you can use chicken or beef too… Most of the packs you buy all work out roughly 3 PP for about 12 prawns…

Birds Eye 280gm pack = 5 PP
Young's King Prawns 190gm pack = 3 PP

Frozen 250g bag from Tescos = 3 PP for half the bag

Get those in the hot wok with a few squirts of spray oil and lash in loads of veg… add some soy sauce, sweet chill sauce and a drop of red wine vinegar… Try a little lemon grass or Chinese five spice if that's your thing… I used red bell peppers, courgettes and red onions all finely chopped… but you can add any veg you like… mushrooms are lovely and will bulk it up too!

The satay sauce works out at 2 PP and will serve 4

You'll need…
2 tbsp smooth or crunchy peanut butter

2 tbsp creme fraiche
(the recipe used coconut milk or evaporated milk but creme fraiche does the exact same job without the extra saturated fat!)

1 tsp canderel
(I've found this to be optional… it you caramelize your onions it can be sweet enough)

1 tsp sweet chilli sauce

1 small onion finely chopped

1 clove of garlic crushed

2 tsp soy sauce

2 tsp lemon juice

1/2 cup water

Then…

Combine the onion, garlic, sauces, sugar, lemon juice, peanut butter and water in a small saucepan then bring to the boil. Simmer the mixture for about 5 minutes continuously stirring or until the sauce thickens. Allow it to cool slightly then stir in creme fraiche. You can thin it down with a little more water and then add it to your stir fry.

Et voila!

6 PP of prawns and 2 PP of sauce makes a large portion of this for just 4 PP
just add your rice…

The lowest ready-made packet satay sauce is from AMOY…
6 PP for the full packet which serves two
but its full of flavor so you will easily get 3 dinners out of it…
I found it a little thick so I water it down… Most of the rest are ridiculously high!

Enjoy!

Best Of Beauty.. Week 1!

Right.. so regular readers looking for ProPoints and the like, look away now (unless you're a beauty junkie like me too!) For the next 8 weeks, there'll be a bit of glitter added to the place… I've signed up for the 'Best of Beauty Blog Challenge!' I KNOW! Anyone who knows me, knows I'm all about my lippy and nail polish… and have been known to regularly go to Boots for 1 (ONE!) thing and needed to buy a plastic bag to cart the stuff out of the place! I keep convincing myself that my Boots card is actually a saving device! My bank manager doesn't quite see it like that… I digress… so, it's beauty in this spot for the next 8 weeks and if you want to see all the other fabliss beauty blogger chicks and their take on it… head to the lovely Samanthas' blog - All The Buzz >>> HERE <<< or check out #BOBBlogChallenge on twitter, some of my fav bloggers are doing it. Plus, it's a fab chance to get a nose at what everyone else is using without having to buy anything!

So… week one …

Best Of Beauty 'Skin Care Saviours'
Your ultimate skincare saviours - what skincare products can't you live without?

In no particular order… these are the magic lotions and potions that I love… I have that silly 'combination' type skin which means I'm still a teenager after all these years… so at this time of year, with this crappy weather, my skin is very dehydrated with the occasional spot thrown in for good measure on the greasy bits! (pretty huh?!) So it gets very spoiled in winter… if I didn't use these bad boys, you could just call me 'flakey face!' and I probably wouldn't even take offense!

First up… Hydraphase Intense Masque… from La Roche-Posay (it's french dontchyaknow!) . I have worked on some of these high end brands in my day job but these products just work… all the fancy packaging in the world won't sell your product if it doesn't work… this stuff is science… and they know what they're doing! They can be a little pricey but if you use them right then they'll last and your skin will thank you for it!

This product is part of my 'Sunday-night-in-my-pjs-watching-crap-TV-not-going-to-answer-the-door-to-ANYONE' routine…

It's a velvety gel, so it even feels silky going on, with anti oxidants, it really soothes irritated skin… Directions? Lash on a generous layer, feet up and your skin will be so soft and rehydrated it's not even funny! A little goes a long way and it's not something you would use all the time but when you feel like you need a little TLC this is fab! It retails in the pharmacy at €15.50 but with your Boots card *coughs* and the 3 for 2 deals.. it's one to add to the shopping list!

Next … Clinique - Dramatically different moisturizing lotion …

OK, so this probably doesn't need much explaining being a global favorite… and its always on my Christmas list as it's such a good moisturizer… the consistency is great and it absorbs nearly immediately without your skin feeling greasy…

Only down side to this is no SPF… I'm a stickler for sun protection so when I'm using this I always make sure my foundation has an SPF in it… or I put suncream on after… Mr. Clinique if you're reading this… take note!

Great for your neck and décolletage too… I always try to plan restocking mine when someone's coming through Duty Free but it's available for €24 in Boots…

No. 7! Beautiful Skin - Hydration Mask This stuff is awesome… its like fluffy clouds of silky ice-cream in a tube! Again for us scaly types… you lash this on and leave it for 10 minutes whilst you're in the tub and just let it work its magic! Not a snake skin in sight I tell ya!

Personally I'm not a big fan of No.7 stuff, nothing has ever seemed to be worth the money for me. I love trying the individual face packs from SuperDrug and the Montagne Jeunesse ones for exfoliating and spots but I got this as a gift last year and I'm on my second tub so it lasts! Your skin will feel baby soft and moisturized after it…
An small investment for super soft skin in my book for €16…

This was an impulse buy in Duty Free recently, I had a pile of coins that I couldn't change into euros so I hit the Clarins counter to see what they had… The staff were SO helpful… you know the kind of gal that isn't trying to sell you every product… so I got lots of little samples and a delayed flight meant I got to try every thing before I purchased…

Firstly the smell is… as they say in my neck of the woods… Totes Amazeballs! Blue Orchid and patchouli oil tone your skin add a bit of hazelnut oil to the mix and soft skin is a go!

Rub a tiny drop rubbed between your hands to warm it up and onto the driest parts of your skin and like magic.. soft supple skin… and because you only use the smallest amount this will last ages!

So there you go… now you all know the secrets to my youthful looks! *coughs* Normal service resumes tomorrow.. but c'mere… next Thursday its all things 'Hair!' *girlie squeal*

Saucy!

This caught my eye in the supermarket the other day because it says that word… that AMAZING, magical word that I just ADORE … BACON! Sigh… AND droooollll!

Ballymaloe relish is a standard in Chateau Doll… love it especially in the summer with salads and BBQs… BTW a 100g squeeze bottle is just 4PP, so its practically free but has loads of flavor to change a boring old wrap! So I'm thinking the pasta sauces might be just as flavorsome!

I've yet to try them, the Bacon one made it into my basket so I shall report back but from rumours flying around, it's suppose to be 'only gorgeous' … I know I'm all about making stuff from scratch and usually I'm out with the Aldi lardons and chopping up my veg… this is one of those  'just in case' packets.. the sachet for 1 is 5PP which seems high but you will get two dinners out of it with loads of free veg and some pasta… and this is one of the better ready made sauces, not massive amounts of additives in it and its Irish…

tangent… I've been making the courgette linguine recently! It is AWESOME! Here's one of my favorite foodie blogs Not Quite Nigella and her take on it >>>HERE<<< … you won't look back and it's ZERO ProPoints! There's loads of versions on google.. Jamie Olivers version is pretty yummy too!

Ballymaloe Smoked Bacon Pasta Sauce
100g - 3PP
180g serves 1 - 5 PP
380g sachet - 11 PP

Ballymaloe Italian Tomato Pasta Sauce

180g serves 1 - 4 PP
380g sachet - 9 PP

Love…

We're all so quick to put ourselves down… 'I'm not as skinny as…' … 'I'm not as pretty as…' …  'I hate my…' ... But here's the thing… if you don't love yourself… how can you expect others to love you? If you're SO hideous.. how come you're not locked up somewhere so you don't frighten small children on the street?

Look around you… there are people in your life who adore you… who can't imagine life without you… who don't understand why you're so hard on yourself…

so this MISERABLE Monday… be a little kinder to yourself… its Valentines week… I mean Hallmark made a special day just for all the love, give yourself a little!

Irene …

This is a very personal post to a very dear friend…

This week has been an emotional one… I'm not sure whether all the planets have aligned to make everyone especially miserable or whether someone up there is just rounding off January with a bang… and not in the good way…  so when spring time comes we'll all be a bit more grateful… this week a friend suffering from depression has given us the worries… people trying their luck and testing my patience beyond reason … a cousin I've never even met is in intensive care and whilst I'm not sad for myself, I'm sad for my dad because he's sad for his sister… we all know she's going to be ok but when your loved ones are hurting.. you hurt for them… which leads me to the saddest thing this week…

One of my besties has lost her beloved cat… Irene was 15 years old and adored … She got very poorly last week and the the hardest decision had to be made by her parents… some people might say… 15 years is a long time… its only a cat… but to her it has been 15 years of unconditional love… 15 years of fluffy play time… 15 years giving a paw of reassurance… 15 years of excitement when she goes home… 15 years of sleeping in her bed when she has gone… and this week that dreaded phone call had to be made… Irene is now at peace…

I know some one out there is shouting.. 'get a grip.. people have real problems!' but look here… life is relative and Irene was really special to a lot of people and was practically a member of our social circle… so give over and google something else if you don't like it!

Even though we all found out via the wonders of social media… and texting each other 'did you hear about Irene?' I couldn't bring myself to call or text her when I heard in case she was busy and my virtual hugs and emotional txts might just push her over the edge and make her teary just when she didn't need it… but I had to pull in on the M50 for a tear or three… not because I ever met Irene but I knew the heartache it would bring my lovely friend…

We have had many pets in Chateau Doll… and each one has been a member of our family… they've pretty much ousted me from 'their chair' .. they get the last sausage from the Sunday morning grill… they've laid in bed when we've been poorly .. and they know… pets just know when you're miserable.. they know to snuggle close when you need a cuddle… to act ridiculous to make you smile… our dog Belle will howl at the piano just to get a reaction.. I'm pretty sure she has attention deficit disorder… but when she does it… everyones got a smile on their face and she's a member of our family… I mean when she goes to get her nails clipped, my mothers phone is like a hotline cause we all know how much she hates it… first world problems you might say… nope.. it's sheer adoration for the best member of our family… the only member to give unconditional love, no matter how you look, what size you are.. what you're wearing.. they adore you! Tails wag when the key goes in the door… they purr to show you how much they've missed you… but to hear from afar that your fur baby is gone is heart breaking… and you know you've picked the right group of friends when you can all sit around in your slippers regaling stories of long lost pets and passing the tissues…

so… we shall be celebrating Irene in the coming weeks but here's a few Irene facts that you should all know…

Hurricane Irene caused extensive damage to the Greater Antilles and the US East Coast—name was retired after 2011… um…

Saint Irene is the patron saint of peace and of girls… In Greece, she is also the patron saint of policemen.. I'm not sure if this is helping…

Me, Myself and Irene: 2000 Jim Carrey film.. sorry… I'm not even going to justify that one with a picture…

It's also the name of a swedish pop band… I'm clutching at straws now…

More importantly … Irene is the name of a fabulous cat with soft black fur and devilish green eyes who my friend has had the privilege to own and adore for all of her fluffy life…

Irene is a name derived from the Greek word for "peace"… which is where she is now, at peace…

So all you pet lovers who know how it feels… at some point this weekend… raise a glass or a mug … to Irene… who is now chasing mice amongst the stars and purring down on us…

as Nat King Cole sang.. "good night Irene.. goodnight Irene.. I'll see you in my dreams.."
