PPPOTD - POPCORN

Popcorn is one of those vegemite things.. you either love it or hate it.. and its propoint values are just the same... take your average 30g of Manhattan popcorn - 4 PP .. this is great value for those with the savoury tooth! Beats crisps hands down and you do feel so full after a bag of it.. so you're satisfied into the bargain! Cinema popcorn is pointed like so in some books... Small - 7PP; Medium - 12PP; Large - 19PP. Our leader tells me there are 32 PP in a large portion but it will depend if its air or oil popped! uh huh...

However these are all rather vague values, so I've hunted down some nutritional values and can reveal this... Cinema popcorn (salty)per 100g: K/Cal: 459kcal; Protein: 8g; Total Carbs: 61.8g; Carbs of which sugars: 3.g Total Fat: 24.3g; Fibre: 10.4g which when I use the online tracker come out as 30 PP!! you heard me!

Some cinemas don't readily have the small portions to hand, but if you ask they will make one up for you... (picked yourself up off the floor yet!) I know!!! If you want to bring your own... Snack a jack popcorn is 1.5 pp per portion and they do a toffee version for the sweeties out there.. Butterkist toffee popcorn are 3PP per bag and Butterkist Cinema style sweet popcorn is 22 PP for a 200g bag

These new "pop yourself" from Tayto both come in at 5 PP per 45g serving, there are 3 X 90g bags portions per box, so pop it at home before you leave and bring it with you! Massive Propoint savings to be had! Have fun at the movies... Doll x

PPPOTD - Paté

Pâté is a mixture of ground meat and fat minced into a spreadable paste... there are many addition and variations... including vegetables, herbs, spices, and either wine or cognac, armagnac or brandy... Pâté can be served either hot or cold, but it is develops a fuller flavor after a few days of chillin' in the fridge... However being made with fat .. it's obviously not a good choice for those wanting to lose weight... there are some low fat versions on the market ... and if you really do love it.. as usual in moderation you can have it! Melba toasts are your best bet to keep the ProPoints low ... These pâtés are available in Aldi so they're good for your wallet too ... Doll x

PPPOTD - my milkshake brings...

We all know that we've got to get our calcium quotas throughout the day... these knees will be needed dancing in the old folks home... and most people starting on a diet give up full fat dairy, milk, cheese, full fat yoghurts believing that by cutting the high fats out they're helping their weight loss but you gotta mind your bones kids ... here's something I was asked about and if you're a milkshake fan but can't face drinking plain old milk it might help ... this 330ml Strawberry flavoured milk is 6 PP for the lot, which is a lot in daily values but its very strong in flavour and approx 1/3 of this can be used, diluted with your normal skimmed milk to get the good stuff into you and it still tastes ok... Personally my smoothie machine is my friend, so to chuck some fruit into the milk and blend is a better way to go (remember kids fruit is FREE!!!) but hey .. they ask.. I tell... this also comes in Chocolate and Banana flavours.. Other ways to get your calcium is through fish like sardines canned sardines and mackerel, white bread (white flour is fortified with calcium), green leafy vegetables such as broccoli, nuts, seeds, beans, dried fruit and oranges... dem bones... dem bones... PPPOTD - Hail Caesar...

Salad Light Caesar Dressing - 0 PP

Dressing snobs look away now! The latest addition to the spray on family! (fingers crossed there'll be a chocolate one next!) Along with the Sunflower oil and Olive oil zero sprays... this new addition isn't half bad... a light spray over your salad and you've got a nice hint of garlic herbs... TIP: a little goes a long way! Get it while its still summer... apparently!

Recipe - Pesto Mushrooms

This recipe comes from the Seriously Satisfying Cookbook from Weight Watchers..

What you need..
4oz/110g of large field mushrooms
1oz/25g of goats cheese
1/2oz/15g of breadcrumbs

For the pesto
1/2oz/15g pine nut kernels
1/2oz/15g chopped flat leaf parsley
1/2oz/15g parmensan cheese roughly chopped
1 clove of garlic crushed

To make the pesto -
1 • Dry fry the pine nuts until golden
2 • Put all the ingredients in a food processor and blend to a rough paste
3 • Done!

To assemble the mushrooms...

1 - Spray both sides of your mushys with 0 calorie oil

2 - Spread with pesto and goats cheese... I made my own pesto but most of the fresh ready-mades are the same ProPoints, do check though... I know the Jamie Oliver pesto, in the jars, is the same.

3 - Sprinkle with breadcrumbs, I used Hale & Hearty Gluten Free bread crumbs, they are very finely ground and make the topping extra crunchy! Thanks to Ciara my gluten free gal pal...

Tip - to get the topping really crunchy use day old bread and shred it finely...

4 - In the recipe they are done on the grill but I put mine in the oven @200˚ for approx 10 mins - Keep your eye on them!

5 - DONE!

This recipe is 8 ProPoints per serving, serve it with a salad for lunch or dinner and its very filling! Add 40g of pasta and its an extra 4 PP for a filling dinner ... yummy!
